Comprehensive Shoulder Evaluation, Treatment & Rehabilitation

Mark Shires is in his 8th season as a Major League Assistant Athletic Trainer and has proudly spent his entire 26-year career with the Baltimore Orioles organization. In 2023, he and the Orioles’ athletic training staff were recognized with the prestigious Major League Athletic Training Staff of the Year Award by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS).

Mark’s journey with the Orioles has taken him through five levels of the farm system, including 11 years at Triple-A Norfolk. His extensive experience and dedication have shaped him into a trusted and respected leader in the field.

He currently represents American League Assistant Athletic Trainers on the PBATS Executive Board, chairs the Scholarship Committee, and serves on the Electronic Records Committee. A Certified Athletic Trainer and a NATA and a NASM-certified Performance Enhancement Specialist, Mark brings a modern, evidence-based approach to care—incorporating the McKenzie Method, ART, IASTM, Dry Needling, Shockwave Therapy, and TECAR Therapy into his treatments.

Known for his professionalism, innovation, and commitment to athlete care, Mark continues to make a lasting impact on the Orioles organization and the athletic training profession.

Crisis and Resilience in Elite Athletes: Optimizing Performance Through Mental Health Awareness and Clinical Intervention

Dr. Jessica M. Mohler serves as the Assistant Director and Coordinator of Sport Psychology Services at the Midshipmen Development Center, United States Naval Academy. A former naval officer and trained sport and exercise psychologist, Dr. Mohler blends her unique background to support the development of elite performers and future military leaders.

She made history as the first psychologist to chair the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports, leading a national team in shaping health and safety policy for over 400,000 collegiate athletes. Her influence continues through her contributions to the NCAA’s Mental Health, Sleep, and Diverse Student-Athlete Well-Being Task Forces.

In the professional sports world, Dr. Mohler designed and led the mental skills training program for the Baltimore Orioles, playing a key role in their first divisional championship in nearly a decade. She now consults privately with Olympic teams, collegiate athletic departments, and professional organizations in MLB and the PGA, delivering high-level performance strategies rooted in sport psychology and resilience under pressure.

Review of the Long-Term Increase in Pitcher Injuries at the Amateur and Professional Levels

Dr. Byron Campbell, PT, DPT, ATC, LAT, CSCS, ADN-Cert, is a Senior Organizational Physical Therapist with the Baltimore Orioles, now in his third season overseeing rehabilitation and performance strategies across both Major and Minor League players. As a trusted resource for both injured and healthy athletes, he leads the organization’s rehabilitation and injury prevention programs, with a specialized focus on performance optimization and recovery.

In addition to his role with the Orioles, Dr. Campbell serves as a clinical instructor for DPT and ATC students and contributes to the Professional Baseball Physical Therapy Society (PBPTS) as a member of the MLB social media committee. He is also launching his own sports performance and rehab center—Campbell Performance Institute—in Sarasota, FL, while serving as an adjunct professor at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences.

With a passion for biomechanics, functional movement, and post-surgical rehab, Dr. Campbell has consulted across all levels of sport. His clientele includes athletes from the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB—backed by his unique perspective as a former Division I and professional athlete himself.

Athletic Dry Needling

Dr. Scott Dixon, DPT, is the founder and lead instructor of Athletic Dry Needling, where he has spent the last eight years teaching dry needling techniques to chiropractors, physical therapists, and athletic trainers nationwide. With six certifications in dry needling and over 100 hours of acupuncture training, Dr. Dixon is recognized as a leading educator in the field, offering courses that range from foundational skills to advanced techniques.

A 2011 graduate of Chatham University with a Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree, Dr. Dixon has worked with elite athletes, including top performers in the NFL and MLB. He is also the owner of Integrative Physical Therapy in Ponte Vedra, Florida, where he continues to combine clinical excellence with performance-focused care.

Outside of his professional work, Dr. Dixon enjoys life in Ponte Vedra with his 13-year-old twin daughters, bringing balance to a life centered on helping others heal and perform at their best.

Wrist & Hand Injuries in Baseball: Strategies for Management & Return to Play

Dr. Allen brings over 30 years of clinical and educational experience in orthopedics, sports medicine, and hand therapy, with a deep specialization in upper extremity evaluation, lower chain biomechanics, and foot and ankle injury management. Her expertise has made her a sought-after consultant for professional baseball and softball players and teams.

She is the co-founder of the Therapy Partners Group Sports Residency Program and the Upper Extremity Athlete Fellowship with the Cincinnati Reds, helping shape the next generation of sports medicine professionals.

Dr. Allen has delivered expert-level instruction in professional and academic settings, including an 8-hour course on wrist and hand injuries for the New York Mets medical team in 2023, as well as presentations at the PBATS Baseball Medicine Conference, the University of Arizona Sports Medicine Fellowship, and A.T. Still University’s Doctor of Athletic Training Program.

Her contributions reflect a lifelong dedication to advancing athlete care and clinical education at the highest levels of sport.
